The novel is about the promise Luke, a Navy Seal, made to Saskia, a soldier in the Army. They sat next to each on a flight and got to talking. Saskia is a single mother and on leave for forty-eight hours over the Christmas holiday and wants to see her son. Luke is on his way home also but to spend Christmas by himself. He enjoys her company and conversation as they make their way home. Her connecting flight is cancelled leaving her heartbroken, so Luke promises her he’ll get her home.

Luke lost his wife to cancer three years ago. He made her a promise he’d get home to her but didn’t arrive until after she’d passed. He saw the sorrow in Saskia’s eyes and was moved to help her. He knows all too well how short life is and how important it is to be with the ones you love.

This was a very cute and very sweet love story about two people who know about not only sacrifice but dealing with loss. They find something in the other person that they connect with and a love begins to grow. This story made me smile more than once.

This novel is the story of Cole and PJ, and I, like other readers of this series, have been waiting a long time for it. Cole and PJ are snipers for the KGI team. KGI is a black ops type of organization. It is family oriented but they do have non family members within the organization. The book starts out with Cole showing up in the bar in Denver that PJ hangs out in between missions. They have some tequila shots and decide to act on their simmering attraction to one another. The next morning they both get a call that their team is meeting for their next assignment. At the meeting it is decided that PJ will go undercover as semi bait for a human trafficker. No one likes the situation at all, especially Cole, since he’s already admitted to himself that he’s in love with PJ, and has been for some time.

During the mission, something goes horribly wrong and PJ is brutally raped and physically scarred. What makes this so terrible is that her whole team hears everything that happened to her. She resigns the team and disappears for six months, while her teammates and KGI desperately look for her. But let’s not forget, PJ knows how to disappear and go off the grid. She tracks down 3 of the 4 men who were at her rape. She killed the guards who watched but didn’t participate first. Then she killed one of her rapists and that just leaves the boss.

Finally her team tracks her down and decides to help her find the other man. She doesn’t want this but agrees to it. Vengeance is her sole focus and she doesn’t want to involve KGI. She and Cole reconnect and their relationship grows more intense by the day.

I anticipated this book for so long and I’m thrilled it was all I expected. I was a little concerned that she might do a little paranormal in this one the way she had the last two. I read both of those books and thought she might have honestly ruined the series for me. This book was a total redemption for the series in my opinion. I love the vigilante part and the closeness of her team. She had several things deal with and I thought they were handled well. It wasn’t hot after the one and only sex scene and understandably so. I didn’t miss that as I was transfixed on how the rest of the story played out. I know it’s $7.99 but it is truly worth every penny. I got my copy from the library since I was wary because of the last two books, but the KGI series is back to being an auto-buy for me.

Micah Sloane has no family. He is an Elite Ops agent and a former Mossad agent. He was a former Mossad agent because he’s no longer alive. By that, I mean that he was reported dead but he is actually still living. He is part of the group that Noah Blake is from. He has a chance to catch the killer that murdered his parents, but to do so he has to use Risa Clay as a way to lure out the killer.

Risa Clay has had the most horrific things happen to her. She was a victim of a kidnapping, she was drugged, she almost died, she was brutally raped while her father watched and she was wrongfully institutionalized to keep her quiet. She was raised by monsters who told her she was so ugly no one would ever want her and and she should never procreate and pass that ugliness on to a child.

She decides it’s been long enough after her rape to embrace her sexuality. She’s given the rest of her life six years to settle and now it’s her sex life’s turn. She meets Micah and from there her life will never be the same. As the situation is explained to her, she is resentful towards Micah, as she should be. But the part that hurt me was that she was accepting of the fact that there was a contract on her head. She was willing to go along with being the bait, she just didn’t want Micah posing as her love interest.

I rank this book right up there with Lora Leigh’s Wild Card. I even cried harder in this book. Every emotion is felt while reading it. You cheer for Risa because no one else ever has. Even at the height of betrayal for Risa she conducts herself with as much dignity as possible.  You have to read the entire Tempting SEALs series to fully understand what’s going on but I encourage you to do it. This novel is worth that and so much more.
