A security specialist computer geek, a recently divorced hometown girl, an aging in the closet rock star, an ex-military overprotective brother, and a precocious toddler. These are just some of the endearing characters you get in this novel. Sean is a former geek turned security specialist who has come back to his hometown to settle his estranged mother’s estate. Katie is a divorcee whose ex husband took their life savings and abandoned her. Judah is a rock star that’s gay but hasn’t come out yet and who has a stalker.

This is a great little read about the things we can and can’t change about ourselves and the choices we make because of that. It’s also about two different love stories, each that will touch your heart.  Sean and Katie have known each other since high school and have crushed on each other that long also. When they face what they feel, there a some pretty good fireworks. And when Judah finally confronts his orientation, you feel it too. Sean was so embarrassed by his stuttering and Katie’s not really noticing was precious.

I had a hard time when I started reading this but I’m glad I finished it. My lack of focus had nothing to do with the book not being good though. Everyone should read this book. In closing, I’ll leave you with my favorite thought in the book. It comes from Sean: He picked her up. Picked her up and carried her, as if she were Scarlett O’Hara and he were Rhett Butler, if Rhett had been the kind of guy to go down on Scarlett in a doorway. Which, let’s be honest, he probably was.

Reckless Night by Lisa Marie Rice

This is a very short novella or very short story. It takes place after the novel  Dangerous Passion which I read years ago. It would be very helpful to have read that book first. It’s not really a stand alone type of read.

Manuel and Victoria are a married couple living on a tropical island somewhere. They are very devoted to each other and happy. Their life is pleasant and safe which is a huge thing for them, especially Manuel. See, Manuel is really Vicktor (Drake) Drakovich and Victoria is really Grace. They had to change their names due to Drake’s former occupation. He was an arms broker/dealer. A very successful and feared one. He faked his and Grace’s deaths after an assassination attempt.

Grace throws Drake a birthday party with some new friends on their island and it goes very well. Drake wants to get Grace a Christmas gift that she’ll enjoy. She doesn’t care for flashy expensive things, so it is difficult for Drake to pick something. He finally decides on a trip to Sydney where he has never been involved with the arms trade before. He feels it will be safe for them.

I leave the story ending for you to read if you like. I love Lisa Marie Rice and enjoyed the epilogue of Drake and Grace. There’s a juicy sex scene and a dramatic ending that Rice writes so well.

I was so excited to get this book and start reading it. I was just about bouncing in my chair, as I am a huge Susan Mallery fan and have been for years. This chapter in the Fool’s Gold saga is about Patience McGraw, a hometown girl who was in love with a neighbor boy back in high school. When said boy disappeared without a trace she was heartbroken as only a fourteen year old girl can be. She moved on with her life and ended up pregnant out of wedlock and then married to her baby daddy. That marriage soon fell apart and she she ended up raising her daughter alone after the father waived his parental rights. Then the unthinkable happens….Justice comes home.

Justice Garrett always regretted leaving the way he did. He missed Patience and thought about her for years. His decision to move back home after his career in the military was based on Patience and his need to reconnect with her. He is going to open a business with another hometown boy, Ford Hendrix and a man named Angel. Watching he and Patience rekindle their friendship was precious. These two characters really cared about each other.

This did drag a little in the middle for me which is shocking because I LOVE this series. I want to move there and never leave, except to maybe vacation in Lucky Harbor or Virgin River. Once this book got back on track for, it was full steam ahead. You need to read this latest installment and if you have never read this series, get started because it is fantastic. My only other complaint is that she has turned down the heat in the last two books. Not a fan of the heat getting turned down at all.
