This one is only 46 pages long and I worry that if I write my own synopsis, I might give too much away. So, here is the blurb from NetGalley.

“History grad James Sheridan thinks his biggest problem in life is trying to find a suitable outfit for his upcoming Ph.D. candidacy exam. That is, until he accidentally texts a changing-room selfie meant for his fashionable sister to his ex, the domineering Professor Carson. James and Carson haven’t seen each other since James fled their power games two years ago. Back in his undergrad days, Carson was his Professor, and not just in the academic sense: a man of unusual tastes and extreme sexual demands, James had been happy to sate Carson’s savage appetites. Too happy, in fact. He never could trust himself not to let Carson push too far. Now James is older and wiser, and sharing some seriously flirtatious vibes with a cute menswear rep. When Carson replies to James’ errant text, ready to pick up where they left off, James can’t help being drawn back into Carson’s control. It’s only when Carson suggests involving the salesman that James has to ask himself how far is too far, and whether he’s willing to go there with Carson again.”

What I truly find amazing is that the authors have managed to write such an entertaining, hot, and steamy read without the main characters ever being in the same building. The writing is very sharp and I loved the back and forth texting. I was glad to discover that there’s a second book, An Inch At a Time, coming soon, because I definitely want more of James and Carson.

I really liked the texting back and forth in this book. Does anyone have any recommendations for other books that involve texts, emails, or letters as a main part of the story?

Gabe owns Bondage & Breakfast, a B&B that caters to those in the BDSM lifestyle. The B&B is temporarily closed while he finishes clean up and repair after a fire. But he does open the house to a friend of a friend. Olivia is a firefighter who is recovering from a spinal cord injury. She’s looking for a place to regroup away from her family. The attraction between Gabe and Olivia is surprising since Olivia’s never been involved in the lifestyle. But while Olivia is able to trust Gabe in this new relationship, Gabe struggles to trust that Olivia will not push herself beyond her own limitations.

This is the fourth book in the Bondage & Breakfast series, but the first book that I’ve read. I was able to easily follow the story without having read the first three. However, this book did make me want to go back and read the first books.

The relationship between Gabe and Olivia was constantly changing, and I loved the ebb and flow of it. It wasn’t one of those books where the hero knows what he wants on page 3 and we wait for the heroine to adjust and change and become what he wants,or vice versa. Gabe and Olivia both changed a bit themselves in order to meet in the middle.

This was my first read by Jodie Griffin, but it will not be my last. I look forward to reading the first three books in this series and can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a low conflict (no villains) milder (restraints, flogging, anal play) BDSM story.

Ian, über-richy rich Dom, is an ass.  He’s all about control.  Controlling his business, controlling his employees, controlling every aspect of his life.  He has no time or interest in love.  Francesca, sweet, innocent Francesca is a painter.  She’s won a contest to paint a painting for Ian’s newest building.  And, being this is a romance, sparks of attraction fly when they first meet.  But despite being in control of his life, Ian can’t control the way his thoughts keep returning to Francesca.  So what’s a poor controlling Dom to do?  Ian will control everything about their sexual interactions, including when their interludes will end.  He acknowledges that they will both probably get hurt, but he just can’t turn away.  In exchange, Francesca will get pleasure and experience.  But just when Ian has reached the pinnacle of asshood, you discover why he is the way he is, and you, along with Francesca, fall in love with him.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so enthralled by such an ass of a hero before, but I really just couldn’t stop reading.  Francesca manages to walk that fine line between submission and doormat.  The author does a good job of showing us the torment Ian faces in his relationship with Francesca.  How he’s trying to protect his heart and trying to not be a complete ass.

This was originally written and released in 8 separate parts.  I’m glad that I read the complete novel, because I can’t imagine having to wait for the next installment to be released.  I’m not of huge fan of serialization as I tend to get sucked in and end up spending too much time and money on the whole series.

Do you have any serializations to recommend?  Are you a fan of the format or not?
