Victor Barboza is an executive and self made man. His job is his life but he’s searching for the missing piece. He is actively avoiding his ex-fiancee which is difficult because he deeply respects her father. He’s at a fundraiser for his ex’s father when he meets Cara Green.

Cara Green is a single mother of a three year old boy. She has three jobs to help support them as they live with her retired mother, who’s on a fixed income. She is working for a caterer when she meets Victor.

I don’t want to say too much and ruin the read for anyone. So, I would say, read it. It’s cute and not real long. Cara and Victor are good together. Cara’s a full figured gal and for me personally, that storyline never gets old. Victor knows what he wants and goes right for it. There’s a jealous ex, questionable baby daddy whereabouts and a precious three year old boy. My only real complaint, and it’s a big one for me with a contemporary romance, it wasn’t near hot enough.

When Anthony Bridgerton decides it is time to marry, he wants no part of love. He sets out to make Edwina Sheffield, the beauty of the season and someone he can tolerate without loving, his future bride. When he discovers Edwina will not marry unless her sister Kate approves of the suitor, Anthony makes impressing Kate his number one priority. But is he enjoying his time spent with Kate too much?

After a string of disappointing reads, I knew I could count on Julia Quinn and the Bridgertons for an enjoyable read.  This second installment certainly delivered.  Anthony is a conflicted but likable hero.  Determined not to fall in love, he doesn’t know how to handle the feelings he’s developing for Kate.  used to standing in her sister’s shadow, Kate fully expects to become a spinster.  how can she believe Anthony would choose her over the beautiful Edwina?  Full of witty humor and tender moments, I read the entire book with a smile on my face.  And really, can you ask for anything more?

Julia St. Claire is twenty-two and has turned down many a suitor. She doesn’t want to love someone and always discourages the matches when the men seem to be besotted with her. She prefers a loveless marriage.

Benedict Revelstoke is the second son of an earl. He has been Julia’s lifelong friend and has loved her from afar.

Sophia St. Claire has pined for a man who has never showed her interest for five years. In her struggles to get this man’s notice, she has also turned down many marriage offers.

Rufus Highgate is an earl with a wicked scar and a scandalous past. It was said that he was responsible for his late wife’s accident. He hates the Ton and does his best to avoid it.

Julia and Sophia’s parents want to see their daughters settled. They will do whatever they have to, no matter what, to ensure this. Even to the point of not taking their daughters wishes into account. Julia is basically sold to a man to cover her father’s debts. What makes this worse, is that the man she’s sold to is the man Sophia wants.

Julia gets the man she never knew she wanted.

Benedict gets everything he has ever wanted.

Sophia gets a man she never expected.

Rufus gets a woman he never thought he deserved a chance with.

This novel was entertaining. I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel with two heroes and two heroines. It was a nice change from the norm. All characters got what they deserved and it just happened to be what they wanted too. It didn’t get hot though until about 70% into the book and I didn’t like that at all.
